Family Day is disrupting our plans!

We'll be meeting at John's Restaurant on Tuesday the 17th instead of Monday the 16th to discuss 'The Burning Shore'. Monday is Family Day. All our normal venues will be closed.

See you then.

Pillars coming up.

-
-
Holy smokes, "The Pillars of the Earth" is quite a read. We'll be lucky to get through it on time. Didn't realise when I suggested it, that it is huge.

So the discussion on Clan of the Cave Bear went very well. Nice and cosy at Coffee Lodge Exmouth. Thanks for having us Donna and thanks for the treats Carol.

So next we will be meeting for dinner at John's on the 8th of December. We will have dinner, discussion, then those who are interested will continue on to Lola's or Limbo for some 'tarminis'. I can't remember if we decided on a venue for the 'tar-meanies'. (Catherine, did we decide?)

Then on the 16th, over to Carol's on Maria Street for munchies and a movie. "The Secret Life of Bees" will not be out in video by then (asked at Rogers) so we will need some ideas for something to watch.

By then we should know everything there is to know about cathedral building in the 1100's, King Stephen and Empress Maud.

See you then.

Oh well, next month is a nice small book.

Aww...... thank you Sue!! I had a wonderful time myself! Its fun to realise how many different points of view you can pull from just one book and so many different minds!! I am really enjoying the new book for next month, I wish I could quite my job and just read forever!

No "Bees" for us.

Don't be heading off to the theatre on Monday night as it looks as if the movie we want isn't showing in Sarnia. I looked in the Observer and there is a half page review of the "Secret Life of Bees", however there is no listing for it at the cineplex.com site.

Hopefully someone at the theatre will realise that it would be worth their while to show this movie and bring it in. I can't believe they are showing drivel like 'Beverly Hills Chihuahua' and not "The Secret Life of Bees". If it doesn't end up here, perhaps it will be out on DVD in time for us to watch it at Christmas.

So we had a lovely time at John's on Monday night. Everyone liked the book. Donna was missing as she was doing an east coast Thanksgiving with her family. Welcome to Nicole, a Finch regular who was full of great ideas and contributed a lot to the discussion.

-I picked up a second hand copy of "The Clan of the Cave Bear". Let me know if you want it.

-The name of the book we were talking about is"The Divine Secrets of the Ya Ya Sisterhood".

So the next time we meet is Tuesday at Mall Road library at 7 pm. ( Could you pick me up Catherine?) Our next discussion is on November 1oth, hopefully at Coffee Lodge Exmouth. I'll let you know if anything changes. We are getting some carpeting in at Finch, so it should be a lot quieter next time we are there.

The picture of the bag of books is from when Julie and I were liking the idea of calling ourselves the BAG ladies, Book Appreciation Group. Does anyone know where the quotation, "On pleasure bent again" comes from?

October already!

September's meeting was very nice, we managed to grab some of the upholstered chairs at CL Finch so we were very comfortable. "Persuasion" was such a good book, made for a great discussion .

I don't think we mentioned venue for October's meeting at the last meeting, let's meet at John's for supper at 6 pm with discussion at 7 on the 14th (I think it is)(The day after Thanksgiving). As mentioned previously, we will be discussing 'The Secret Life of Bees" by Sue Monk Kidd. For those who are interested, there is the discussion of the same book at Mall Rd. library on the last Tuesday of the month. I'm planning on going as is Catherine I believe. The movie is coming out on the 18th, it looks wonderful, Queen Latifah and Jennifer Hudson are in it. Is anyone interested in going to see it?

Jetsetter Donna will be away again, but I believe Meg (and sister Nicole?) will be joining us (for supper too I think!). A regular customer at the store has been reading the book and has said that she will be at the meeting. It will be nice to have someone new join us. Her name is Nicole as well.

We will be reading "Clan of the Cave Bear" by Jean Auel in November. Perhaps we can talk Donna into having us at her store for a change? Much cosier and quieter there. I've strayed from the reading list. Can anyone think of anything Christmassy or uplifting for December? Preferably with a good movie that we can get together to watch. We'll talk about it on the 14th.

See you then, Happy Thanksgiving.
