Hunchback

I honestly remember reading this as a teenager and enjoying it. Things have really changed!

Do not kill yourselves reading this ladies, I really don't know that I am going to get through it myself. What hard work! Forgive me for choosing it.

I think Carol is going to be in Cuba, I know that Meg is forsaking us in favour of going to see a Bon Jovi concert. (what nerve)

We'll have a nice meal and a chat anyway. See you next Monday, the 10th.

PS. I rented 'Becoming Jane', Lorna was right, it is good and Anne Hathaway did a fine job.

Bookcrossing

"If you love your books, Let them go." - The New York Times

What is BookCrossing?
BookCrossing is the act of releasing books "into the wild" and then following their journeys and the lives they touch. www.bookcrossing.com is the website that makes it all possible.

Why BookCross?
If good karma isn't enough, then think about this: BookCrossing combines serendipity, adventure, altruism and literature in a unique mix. With its similarity to releasing messages in a bottle, or notes in helium balloons BookCrossing harkens back to fond childhood memories.
BookCrossing makes the whole world a library.

How does BookCrossing work?
Ever look at your bookshelf and see a book that you no longer have room for? BookCrossers see
those books as opportunities, and register them at www.bookcrossing.com. Each book registered on BookCrossing receives its very own BCID (BookCrossing ID number), which enables members to "tag and track" the book as it journeys through life. The book is labeled with BCID and site information, then left somewhere ("released") for someone else to find. People who find
("catch" in BookCrossing lingo) a wild book are invited to visit www.bookcrossing.com to see
where the book has been and what previous readers have thought about it. They can make an
entry about the book anonymously or join BookCrossing (it's free!) and track the book's future travels.

Book Crossing at Coffee Lodge
Bring your books in to Coffee Lodge, we'll register them and release them in the store
(or give them back to you so you can do your own release). We'll also give you access to the Coffee Lodge BookCrossing account so you can track your book once it is in "the wild".

Family Day?

Here is the latest edition of the reading list. Seems to change every month.

March 10th ---The Hunchback of Notre Dame ---Victor Hugo (John's Restaurant)
April 14th--- To Kill a Mockingbird--- Harper Lee (Coffee Lodge Exmouth)
May 12th ---Reading Circle(Bring whatever you are reading and tell us all about it)
June 9th ---Watership Down---Richard Adams
July 13th ---Day trip? To be Announced.
August 11th ---All Things Bright and Beautiful ---James Herriott
September 8th ---Persuasion ---Jane Austen
October 12th ---Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde---Robert Louis Stevenson
November 10th ---Clan of the Cave Bear--Jean Auel
December 8th---Beau Geste--P.C. Wren
January 2009---Peter Pan--Barrie

Meeting at Coffee Lodge Exmouth was a good idea, accoustics are much better there and we could hear very well. We enjoyed hearing about Carol's trip to Italy (thanks for the souvenirs Carol) and discussed 'The Dwelling Place' by Catherine Cookson.

Catherine will be ordering books for us. If anyone would like to order a book, please let her know 2 months in advance, she'll have it for you the month before we meet to discuss it.

The Book Keeper called to let me know that my special order of 4 copies of the 'Hunchback of Notre Dame' has arrived. Perhaps Meg and her sister would like one. I think everyone else is taken care of.

I was contacted by a very nice lady who is quite interested in Bookcrossing. She is also interested in helping me get the Finch store up and running as a Bookcrossing Hotspot. If anyone has books that you can part with to help us out, could you bring them to our meeting or drop them off at the store? We'll register them and 'release' them in the store or give them back to you to release anywhere you want. Thanks a lot.

Too much winter.

So "Anne (with an E) of Green Gables" went well. We were at John's Restaurant and had a delicious supper as always. Meg joined us for the discussion.

We are going to meet this month (11th) at Donna's store, 400 Exmouth at 7 pm. for a hot drink and to discuss "The Dwelling Place" by Catherine Cookson, one of my absolute favourites. Hopefully this Coffee Lodge will be more condusive to discussion as it has carpets and a dropped ceiling, might cut the noise.

Has anyone been watching the new Jane Austen programs? There is something different on tonight. (Sunday 3rd) I think it is called Miss Austen Regrets.

See you next Monday.
